I am sure most of us have enjoyed making lemonade since we were children. It used to be a time-honed way to turn a tidy profit,  by operating a make-shift  lemonade stand. And if business wasn’t that great, I am sure we all enjoyed drinking up what we didn’t sell.

Now that the weather has warmed again, we might even see an occasional  lemonade stand, although I mostly see those set up at yard sales where the parent can oversee the operation. But in many places outside of the United States and Canada, lemonade is not always the same thing. In Europe, it can be a beer laced beverage called a shandy, which is a popular adult beverage for summertime. Leinenkugel’s Brewery even sells those packaged in the USA although it is easily made at home. I have a recipe for a Strawberry Shandy right here. But for general purposes, most of us like to have a nonalcoholic version made simply with juice, sweetener and water (or sparkling water if you like it fizzy).

As for pink lemonade, there are many ideas behind that, and even behind how it originally got started. As far as this strawberry  lemonade goes, it is decidedly pink, and it has a definite strawberry flavor, not just *pinkness*. The cooking of the strawberries is just to get them soft so they puree well. If your strawberries are really ripe, you could probably mash them and skip the cooking process altogether. You will be able to tell by your own berries, but doing it in any case is small work.

As always, I hope you enjoy and that weather is being cooperative with you where you live so you can enjoy the outdoors.

    • Thanks! I hope you like it. We freeze a lot of just too in ice cube trays then dump it into freezer bafs once they are frozen. I always try to stock up on lemons when they are reasonably priced. Wish I had a tree!

  1. Wow! This strawberry lemonade is so delicious and it makes such an attractive drink. We served this with our bbq dinner today and it was so refreshing. I used a non-sugar natural sweetener. I’ll definitely be making this drink again soon.
