Strawberry Ghost Pepper Dipping Sauce

This is a recipe I made to have as a dipping sauce for baked jalapeno poppers. I often use my recipe for red jalapeno jelly for that, warming it up. But having some strawberries around I thought I would try my hand at a strawberry dipping sauce.

I used ghost pepper sauce in this because I didn’t have fresh ghost peppers on hand.  If you don’t have this sauce you can use another, but be careful to compare the Scoville ratings on the sauce. Something like a Louisiana hot pepper sauce isn’t going to pack the punch that a ghost pepper sauce does. If you are unsure, leave the hot sauce out until it’s done and add by drops until it is where you like it.

Ghost pepper sauce is very spicy, clocking in at 500k Scovilles in its rating. The ghost pepper is one of the hottest in the world (although you are going to get variance by the peppers and where they are grown, growing conditions, etc.). The actual fresh peppers would normally be a bit hotter than the bottled sauce I have, being from 800k-2000000 Scovilles. For comparison, a habanero is around 100k and a jalapeno is a paltry 10k at best. So when using any kind of sauce like this, or one that uses extracts of capsaicin (Pure Cap), proceed with caution.

Likewise, because I didn’t have fresh ghosties around, the peppers in the photo are not ghosties but a few assorted hot ones from my fridge that were on hand.

The sauce is very easy to make, and although I served it with poppers, it would make a great dipper for things like spring rolls or crab rangoon as well. Or drizzle it across a crispy boneless chicken breast for zip. This makes half a cup, which is the perfect amount to serve with a dozen poppers.

I hope you enjoy, and are getting some of the seasonal winter strawberries available right now!
