This week for #SundaySupper the theme is Easy Holiday Party recipes. One of the biggest classics for the holidays seems to always be some sort of cheese ball. I mean, who doesn’t like cheese? But the problem with most cheeseballs is that after a few people graze on it, it really looks….used. Another option is the cheese spread, but then with a crowd of people, double dipping can be an issue, so people can really be shy about noshing on those.

In this recipe, I try to solve the problems those give by making little cheese balls, and solving the problem of juggling a cocktail or wineglass while trying to spread cheese on a cracker by just putting it on an easy to grab stick, which you can eat (without leaving a suspicious looking trail of frilly toothpicks).

Tomorrow I will be back (yet again) with a simple recipe for a boneless half ham with a pomegranate glaze. It’s really a more casual dinner but can easily be adapted for a larger ham if you want it for your holiday dinner. Tuesday I will be posting my recipe for Farro Salad  with Cranberries, Walnuts and Kale. And Wednesday I’ll be posting a recipe for Cranberry Rotkohl, which is a holiday version of braised red cabbage and will go perfectly with any dinner featuring ham or something like crown roast of pork or even pork chops. So don’t forget to stop back by! Until then-

Cheese Ball Pops
Ingredients:

  • 1 whole head roasted garlic (recipe–>here)
  • 8 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 4 ounces finely shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 ounces smoked provolone cheese, shredded
  • 4 ounces finely chopped summer sausage or dry salami
  • 2 tablespoons dried chives
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1-2 cups finely crushed pretzel crumbs
  • extra pretzels (to put in the pops)

Method:

  1. Mash garlic and mix together with cheeses, sausage, chives and Worcestershire sauce until well blended (pulsing in a food processor works best).
  2. Shape cheese into “meatballs” and roll in crushed pretzel crumbs.
  3. Push a thin piece of pretzel into the little cheese ball to create the “pop”.

  1. I love your presentation of these…..especially how you have the pretzel sticks around the outside. They look great!
