Welcome to the third annual #Choctoberfest!  Allison over at the Pintertest Kitchen has put together another great event with wonderful prizes from our event sponsors that you can  sign up to win in the drawing. Imperial Sugar have outdone themselves (yet again) with a boatload of sweetness for both prizes and providing product for the bloggers to work with. As well, other sponsors have pitched in to help, including Barlean’s, Rodelle, and Davis Chocolate.
Homemade Hot Chocolate  Mix
For my recipe today, I want to start off  as I have done before, with one  of my favorite ways to break into the cool weather season with a cup of  hot chocolate. I’ve loved  hot chocolate since I was born I think! Last year I did a recipe for French Hot Chocolate using chocolate bars.  You can revisit that recipe here: —>>>French Hot Chocolate: Le Chocolat Chaud. The one last year was remarkably rich- I made that  in a bistro pot (which is sort of  like a small French press). But I  don’t always have time for that, so I like to have something I can just grab, nuke some water or milk and go. But oh crikey, I do NOT like buying the stuff in those little envelopes. It really does need doctoring every time, and they charge an arm and a leg for it. With this recipe you can mix it up in a jar, and tinker with it if you like a little more chocolatey or like it more creamy, or leaning more towards either mocha or vanilla. You could even add a pinch of red pepper. Some people like that although I never did really get on board with that (and I do like spicy things!)

If you have  problems locating either the powdered vanilla or the tiny dry marshmallows, you can  check sources online, or drop me  a line and I can see if I can help you locate it in your area. Or worse to  worse, you can add a little vanilla extract and soft  marshmallows when you make it. I have no clue why one day you can get these things at Wal-Mart, and the very next you have to do a scavenger hunt at gourmet stores. Hopefully you know where to get all of this stuff already.

  1. I used to keep a similar recipe made up, and to give as gifts. I’m glad you reminded me. This makes excellent gifts, accompanied by some cute mugs.
