Jamaican Tea Toddy

By Sue Lau | Palatable Pastime

When you are down with a cold, your island awaits with a Jamaican tea toddy.

It’s time for Winter Warm-Up drinks again.

And it’s also January and I have been fortunate enough (so far) to escape the nasty bug that has been going around- although with our first big snow coming in a couple of days, I can still warm up with a tea toddy to chase away the cold, if not the flu.

As hot toddys go, they are made with bourbon, honey and lemon, to sooth the throat, ease the sinuses and the bourbon helps.  For a Jamaican version, I have taken inspiration from the fresh lemon  ginger drinks they are so fond of, added a bit of cinnamon and allspice,  and of course, rum.
