Oven Barbecue Chicken

  • 4 pounds chicken drumsticks
  • salt and black pepper
  • olive oil


  • 16 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon Louisiana pepper sauce
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard


  • Stir together sauce and simmer until thick.
  • Season chicken with salt and black pepper and brown in oil.
  • Place chicken on baking sheet.
  • Bake chicken legs at 425F for 25 minutes then turn and bake 10-15 minutes more.
  • Check the meat temp and if it is close to 165 then sauce the chicken and let that bake a couple of minutes to set.
  • If temp is not quite there, bake a few minutes longer. Your bake time will depend on the size of the chicken pieces.
  • Refrigerate unused sauce portions, if any.
