Iced Molasses Cookies

Ingredients
  

Cookies:

  • 1/2 cup soft unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Icing:

  • 1/2 ounce soft cream cheese
  • 2 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk

Other:

  • Cookies sprinkles

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Cream butter, shortening and sugar until smooth.
  • Add egg, molasses and vanilla.
  • Mix in flour,baking powder, baking soda, salt, spices until smooth.
  • Chill batter 30 minutes.
  • Roll dough into balls from one tablespoon dough and place on parchment lined baking sheets 1-1/2 inches apart.
  • Bake 13 minutes or until lightly browned around the edges.
  • Let cool completely on pans.
  • Stir together icing ingredients and spread on cooled cookies.
  • Sprinkle with jimmies.
  • Allow cookies to dry completely, then store between wax paper sheets in an airtight container, refrigerated.
