You wouldn’t know it from the temperatures around here lately, but Autumn is officially here. Although I do understand some parts of the country have very fall-like weather. (Lucky them!)

There are signs, though. I saw early fall color starting to show up several weeks ago. As for myself, I’ve been thinking about foods and dishes I normally associate with Autumn for the last month. One thing I think of this time of year is fresh, local cider.

There was a farmer’s market we used to visit this time of year that had the best fresh-pressed apple cider. They also had delicious caramel apples. We often left with some of both.

So when the theme of slow cooker recipes was chosen, I decided upon a hot cider. Something that evokes the season, and those flavors of apple and caramel.

Equipment

  • Slow Cooker or Crockpot

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh apple cider
  • 2 4-inch cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tablespoons Torani brown sugar cinnamon syrup
  • 6 tablespoons Ghiradelli Sea Salt caramel sauce
  • 1/2 cup whipped cream optional
  • 1/4 cup additional Sea Salt caramel sauce optional

Instructions

  • Heat cider with cinnamon sticks in slow cooker on high for about an hour or until hot.
  • Stir in syrups until dissolved.
  • If desired, serve topped with whipped cream and additional caramel syrup.
