Simple to  make Asian style  salad dressing to make your dinner salad perfectly suitable to serve with stir-fry or other Asian food favorites.

My recipe of the day is for an Asian style salad dressing.

There are several types of dressings  I like  to make  with  Asian food- ginger dressing, miso dressing,  and  then there is  this  one.

Use a Quality Teriyaki  Sauce

This Asian dressing  is  very  simple and  utilizes  teriyaki sauce-   and by that I  mean for you to  use a quality one  (and   by that I mean  one that has both  good flavor  and  consistency- not watery and  thin). I have one  I  worked up  some  years ago for grilling  and have  used on  my Hawaiian burgers.

I also feel comfortable using one of  the  bottled  dressings like  Kona Coast or a  couple other brands that  you can shake the bottle and see  it  is nicely thick and  those also have sesame  seeds added. If  you make mine from  scratch,  add a bit  of  sesame  seeds because this dressing likes that  sesame flavor.

As to  what kind of things  to  put in the  salad-  that is easy going so  I  will  leave  it  up  to you.  In mine, in addition to the  lettuces,  I have added pea shoots, almonds, a little bit of carrot, sugar snap peas, and  cherry tomatoes.

The pea shoots are off season now but you could certainly mix in any fresh sprouts or  microgreens. Just don’t  use canned  sprouts- those are nasty. Another option for a  little bit of Pacific flavor  would be to  add some bits of fresh  pineapple,  or perhaps something like roasted Brussies. Let your imagination soar!

Ingredients

Dressing (2 servings)

  • 2 tablespoons prepared teriyaki sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil

Salad Mix (4-6 servings, given as example from photo)

  • 1 quart chopped salad greens
  • 1 cup fresh bean sprouts
  • 2 cups fresh pea shoots
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrot
  • 1 cup fresh snow peas chopped
  • 1 cup grape tomatoes sliced
  • 3 whole scallions chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh pineapple chopped
  • 1 pound teriyaki grilled chicken sliced
  • 1.5 cups crispy wonton strips

Instructions

  • Whisk together dressing and serve.
  • Prepare the tossed salad as you like, I have given proportions for the type salad in the photo but you can use any. This salad will prepare enough salad for more than what the recipe cites.
