For my selection I am posting my  recipe for quick country style green beans using canned beans. I prefer flat Italian style canned beans in this. You may more easily find those in the Italian section if not shelved with other cans of green beans.

It’s pretty much just a doctored recipe and is what I do. I might also use other types of canned beans, frozen beans or fresh. Usually all summer long I buy fresh.

Very easy to fix up, you can make this a perfect side for any  homestyle meal.

Ingredients

  • 29 ounces canned Italian green beans
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 1 tablespoon bacon grease
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Cook bacon and drain off grease except one tablespoon.
  • Set bacon aside and crumble.
  • Add butter to the grease and saute the onion with the garlic until soft.
  • Drain the can liquids into the skillet and stir with sugar, vinegar, salt and black pepper.
  • Add the green beans and bacon crumbles to the skillet and heat through.
