Movie Theater Popcorn

Movie theater popcorn is my recipe of the day with the blogging group From Our Dinner Table. We blog weekly on a variety of food topics, sharing our best recipes for those.
Popcorn is this week’s topic. I decided to share my secret recipe for making movie theater popcorn at home. With all the staying home and binge watching movies during Covid, this is perfect for me.
One of my favorite things about the cinema is having a nice big tub of popcorn to pig out on while watching my favorite flicks.
The secret to all that movie theater flavor is mostly in the products you use. There is a type of salt known as Flavacol that is used at the theaters. But you can buy it online to use at home. And it is a much finer grind of salt and comes with that signature butter flavor. Amazon sells it.
If you spring for the box you might want to share some with family and friends and have them chip in on the cost. It is just a regular carton. But at half teaspoon per batch, one box might feel like a lifetime supply.
More Than One Ingredient
The butter flavor oil is one I bought with the Flavacol on Amazon. And it is called “At the Movies Popcorn” Butter Flavored Popcorn Topping. This is the “butter” that a theater will hose your box of popcorn with. It’s essentially butter flavored soybean oil.
You can get other brands of the oil/topping in any supermarket on the top shelf near the microwave popcorn. I think Reddenbachers has a brand of it.
But do not skimp and use something like “Butter Buds” or butter flavored salt that isn’t the Flavacol brand. It has the aroma and flavor you will be looking for and is formulated exactly for popcorn. And not really expensive at all.
