Maple Bacon Smoked Sausage is my recipe of the day for the food blogging event Fall Flavors. I’ll be posting on MWF of this week along with a bunch of other recipe bloggers.

So there will be lots of recipes to browse as well as looking over some bloggers you may not have read before.

I like this recipe because it utilizes smoked sausage or kielbasa as an inexpensive dinner meat. It’s also quick to prepare.

The idea for it came from BBQ restaurants which have been wrapping hot dogs, skewering those with picks, and deep-frying them. I like the sausages a lot better. And of course my glazes aren’t half bad. I do like a sweet mustard  glaze.

For serving ideas, I’d probably make this with a pan of cheesy gratin potatoes. And some sort of veggie or salad. Maybe some fried apples this time of year. Whatever is easy that you like. I wouldn’t blink a lash if you made your potatoes from box mix. I’ve done it. I grew up on those and still enjoy the change in flavor dehydrated potatoes get.

Ingredients

  • 13 ounces smoked Polish kielbasa links 4 links
  • 4 slices thick bacon
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Secure bacon around sausages with toothpicks.
  • Brown on all sides; as bacon crisps, remove toothpicks to finish those inaccessible areas; remove from pan.
  • Stir together maple syrup, mustard, garlic and salt in pan.
  • Roll the sausages around in the glaze over low heat until coated and glaze clings well.
