Recently on Facebook, someone I know discovered the delights of peanut butter spread on apple slices.

As well, I have been thinking about apples a lot lately, since they have started coming in season. It seems to be going around. Sometime in July is when the Transparent and Lodi apples come in, which are my favorites for making apple butter. I have a couple recipes that are my favs this time of year.

But Transparent and Lodi apples aren’t the best for eating out of hand. Later in August, the MacIntosh will start coming in, and those are good for eating, and the eating (and eating, and then more eating) of apples will continue through early Autumn until they wane with the harvest of Winesap apples in Mid-October (at least in Ohio.)

One of my favorite things as well, are the luscious caramel apples and caramel apple dips, but they can sometimes be so rich! I wanted to think of an apple dip that would be less rich and filling than either peanut butter or caramel, and thought of the lightness of mascarpone. Blended with peanut butter, natural honey for sweetness and a touch of cinnamon spice, it is an instant hit.

I am sure it will be in your home as well. And Gary (my friend who likes apples and peanut butter), I hope you like it if you try it. It really is good!
