Easy Apple Butter is my recipe of the day From Our Dinner Table: We group weekly to post new recipes on a variety of common topics. This week we are Jammin for Jam.

I am sharing my recipe for Easy Apple Butter that is prepared using unsweetened apple sauce from jars.
I will most often make my applesauce from Early Apples which start coming in July. These would be cooking apples.
Other times I make butter with sauce I had done in Autumn. But I don’t always make enough and sometimes run out.
Using this recipe you can make more apple butter with either jarred sauce or some you have canned or frozen.
I recommend using stove top in this recipe, keeping it covered with a splatter screen. It does require increasing amounts of stirring to prevent scorching.
So keep the heat down and plan to do other things in the kitchen between stirs.

Easy Apple Butter
Equipment
- splatter screen
Ingredients
- 48 ounces natural unsweetened apple sauce 5-1/2 cups
- 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
Instructions
- Stir together ingredients in a large saucepan.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, covering with a splatter screen, stirring occasionally.
- Cook until thickened, stirring occasionally, until reduced to 3 cups.
- Makes 24 ounces (one quart jar full).
- Refrigerate when cool.
