DIY Marzetti Southern Style Slaw Dressing is my recipe of the day. This is a copycat of the bottled Marzett’s’ Southern Style slaw dressing.

This version is cooked on the stove for a few minutes as a boiled dressing since it has egg. Itย compares to the dressing sold in jarsย in the salad dressing aisle of the market.

People will prefer one type over the other. Or perhaps like me, they like them both.
I knowย someone had been asking about this dressing some time back. I had to wait forย it to get back in stock again. Since I do side by side taste tests.ย Memory cannotย always beย counted on so it is best toย tasteย it then and there.

DIY Marzetti Southern Style Slaw Dressing
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons malt vinegar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon ground rosemary
- 1 teaspoon celery seed
Instructions
- Stir together all ingredients (except celery seed) until smooth, then bring to a boil.
- Stir constantly for three minutes.
- Strain mixture then cool.
- Stir in celery seed after straining.

The Marzetti Southern style slaw dressing is the best, but it can be hard to find. Tried this recipe & I no longer buy the jar dressing. This recipe is the best! My question is, how long does this dressing last in the fridge?
Several weeks to be sure and probably depends how often it is opened or if a contaminant got into a jar. I’d say a good while and you’ll know when it is past.
Hi, I found your recipe through my search for a Marzetti Country French dressing DIY recipe and this looks almost identical! I would run out and buy a bottle of this slaw dressing to see for myself but it’s not available anywhere near me. My question is this: have you ever tasted Marzetti’s Country French dressing, and if so, how would you compare it to this? Thanks!
I have but usually as Kraft French which was my Mom’s favorite. Retro French dressings are almost invariably orange colored. I do plan to post one when I get it to my satisfaction and when I do, I will call it classic orange French dressing so just keep an eye open for that and thanks for checking. Sue
