Homemade hoisin sauce, from scratch, without any sugar.
Sugar-Free Hoisin Sauce
By Sue Lau | Palatable Pastime
This is a quick post, as I wanted to get this on the blog as a Palatable Pantry addition.
It is my version of hoisin, made from scratch without added sugar. You can use this instead of bottled hoisin in recipes. It should keep a week in the fridge, but don’t be afraid to pack small amounts in freezer bags for longer storage rather than having a jar go bad.
I love Chinese and Asian cooking, so this is special to me and I am very excited to share it, and recipes using it.
Here is one posted recipe you can use it in- I will post more from my files as I get time.
Grilled Hoisin Chicken and Asparagus Summer Rolls
If you are counting carbs, there is not a lot you can do about the rice paper wrapper, but you could wrap it inside lettuce leaves or something like steamed savoy cabbage leaves. There are also bean curd wrappers but those might involve some carbs depending on the package. You can find those in Asian grocers.
