Chili Cheese Dog Egg Rolls

Crispy chili cheese dog egg rolls are way easier to  make than corn dogs and can be perfect for party appetizers or game day eats.

Chili Cheese Dog Egg Rolls

My recipe of the day for today is something really fun- chili cheese dog egg rolls that are crunchy cheese dogs in a hand-held wrapper and a warm cheesy chili dip.

I really had a lot of fun making these- they are quick and easy to put together. I wish I had thought of this many moons ago when my daughter was still young and one of her favorites was a cheese dog- I swear her little voice sounded like it was saying “han-gok-gok” when she asked if she could have a hot dog.

One does not have to be a kid to have one as long as we  are still kids inside. This would be perfect, equally well, to have as a snack on gameday for the football crowd,  or have as a party appetizer for the kids on Halloween or even movie night.

And this is much more fun than anything on a bun- my bad luck with a bun is having the bottom split open and it all falls into my lap. Has this ever happened to you?

Plus I like the crunch. And these are ever so much more crispy than a corn dog. I am sure your whole family will love these. They may not be healthy enough for  everyday, but we do like to indulge in a fried snack every so often.

  • Servings: 8
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Print

Ingredients:

  • 8 hot dogs
  • 8 slices American cheese
  • 8 egg roll wrappers
  • cooking oil
  • 10 ounce can Castleberry hot dog chili sauce (or ten ounces chili with no beans)
  • 1/2 cup cheese sauce (such as Cheez Whiz)

Method:

  1. Place egg  roll wrapper on a flat surface.
  2. Place a slice of cheese down and top with the cold hot dog laying from widest point  to widest point.
  3. Moisten edges of the wrapper with a little bit of water.
  4. Fold the corners over the ends of the hot dog, then bring up one end, rolling up like a burrito, sealing closed.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet and shallow fry the egg rolls several minutes until  golden on all sides and drain.
  6. To make the dip, heat the chili sauce with the cheese sauce (I used a microwave) and stir thoroughly. You can add some hot sauce if you like.
