Tomato Soup Barbecue Sauce is my recipe of the day with the blogging group Soup Swappers. We join forces mothly to post on various soup topics decided by the host.
July is my turn to host and I suggested we take some leftover soups of ours and turn it into something else equally delicious. Many people prefer something besides soup in the hot summer months.
Clearing our freezers of leftover soups is a chance to play with ingredients. Making a barbecue sauce from leftover tomato soup is fun and fast. I have used my recipe for Winter Tomato Soup as the base. Just make sure that when using this soup for barbecue sauce, that it is made with water. And not the cream of tomato soup version with milk.
Winter Tomato Soup
We are a small family so often only eat half a recipe and freeze the rest for later. Digging in the freezer often brings up foods that can be transformed with a few ingredients.
In this case the soup becomes a sauce that I used on grilled chicken thighs. You could also use it on pulled pork, ribs, chicken wings, burgers, and more.
If you don’t have any soup set back, you can always make a batch for your base. If you like, use the full recipe, doubling the sauce ingredients. This will give you five cups sauce, plenty for a nice sized family barbecue.

I enjoyed this theme Sue. Your BBQ sauce sounds delicious.
Tomato soup is versatile and I loved how you turned it into a barbecue sauce. I like the shine it lends. Simple and awesome! I loved this month’s theme and thanks for hosting.
This is such a great theme – I am always taking leftovers and transforming them. However often leftovers become SOUP! It was fun to turn soup into something else!
