Slow Cooker Cottage Ham with Green Beans and Potatoes is my recipe of the day with my blogging group Multicooker Monday. We get together on the third Monday of the month to post recipes using various small appliances, such as Instant Pot, Slow Cooker, Air Fryer, Sous Vide and so on.
There is no set theme- we are just out to fill our recipe larders with tons of recipes for you (and each other!) to enjoy.
This month I am sharing something that suits what I usually see at farm markets- lots of pole beans, half-runners, and also new potatoes.
Cottage Ham
I’ve used a cottage ham which is typical for this prep, which can also be simmered on the stovetop. The recipe is common to Southern as well as Midwestern cuisine.
The cottage ham is also known as smoked butt. It is not a ham, per se, but a small sized pork butt or Boston butt piece which is a slightly different cut. It tastes pretty much exactly like ham though, so use whatever you can find.

Doesn’t get much easier than that!! Looks luscious.
It doesn’t get much more down home cooking than this! My mom used to cook this almost exact same recipe for our family as I was growing up. So good!
This sounds so cozy and tasty – perfect combination of ingredients.
Sooo good!
Is the cottage roll cooked prior to making this recipe?
Yes, it should be already smoked when you purchase it, like ham or smoked sausage.
