We post on Sundays on various topics. This week we are doing the slow cooker. I  am posting another version of cottage ham that I like to do  in the crockpot. This type of food hails from my husband’s family and  his mom. I don’t recall my mom doing this type of recipe. But we lived much further south and had a few different food traditions.

The cottage ham, which they knew as smoked butt, is a smoked version of pork shoulder or butt. The flavor is a lot like ham. But the size of the meat is quite a bit smaller, only a couple pounds or so.

I cook these in the slow cooker the same way I might do a plain ham or something like corned beef. It is a very simple meal and great for those who don’t like spicy. Still, I will serve horseradish and/or grainy mustards as condiments. As that is what we like to do. French bread is great with this, and that’s about it. Unless you care for something easy like a salad.

Or perhaps you like to save your cooking and baking energy for dessert!
