This is my version of an Italian burger, and it’s a real gangster! I mean, if you’re going to switch things up from your typical everyday burger, there’s no point in holding back. Right?

This gorgeous burger is made using a combination of ground beef and sausage. I think this gives better flavor than using only one or the other. Naturally, it includes appropriate Italian seasonings, as well as some basic burger fixins.

The basil mayo really sets it over the top, and is quite simple to make. If you ever have another burger, this one needs to be first in line!

Hey, you didn’t have to scroll very far for the Spicy Sicilian Burger with Basil Mayo recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chuck
  • 1 pound bulk hot Italian sausage
  • 1 large pastured egg
  • 1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs (omit Italian seasoning if using seasoned breadcrumbs)
  • 2 tsp. Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp. garlic paste
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/4 cup milk

-----Basil Mayo-----

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp. basil pesto
  • 1-1/2 tsp. garlic paste

-----Other-----

  • 6 hamburger rolls
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 6 pieces leaf lettuce
  • 2 medium tomatoes (sliced)
  • 1/3-1/2 cup sliced banana pepper rings

Instructions

I did my burgers on the grill, but if it's raining outside or just don't feel like firing that monster up, these can easily be cooked in a skillet or under a broiler.

  • Mix ingredients for burgers together; using wet hands, shape into six patties and chill.
  • Stir together ingredients for basil mayo and keep cold.
  • Grill burger patties over open fire or in skillet until cooked to your liking.
  • Serve patties on a toasted burger roll with lettuce, tomato, banana pepper, provolone cheese, and basil mayo.
