Scary good taco dip for your Halloween party!
Spider Web Taco Dip
By Sue Lau | Palatable Pastime
I’ve seen pictures of this sort of thing all over the internet. I’d really like to say who inspired it, but there are so many now. Who knows from whence it came?
But the inside is basically what I’d put into a Mexican layer dip. You can even switch the ingredients around if you like something else, like adding beef or chicken. I just like it simple and vegetarian. But spiders…they aren’t vegetarians, are they? So keep that in mind if a tarantula or three drops in to your party. They can often be found hanging about outside the party door looking for their moment to crash the festivities. Spiders are like that.
I have cats which will do short work of most spiders, so I’ll keep the meat out. It’s not like I will get seven years of bad luck or anything for doing that. The only trouble I’d have is if a vegetarian friend *et* the beefy parts unawares. Woe be.
And that guest at my next party? So quoth the Raven: “Nevermore.”
But I hope you enjoy. This is also great for game day. (Go Packers!) Or just whenever you feel like it. If you pack leftovers, make sure you keep the air off the guacamole with plastic wrap or it oxidizes and goes dark. I hate it when avocado does that, but all things to their own nature, right?
Until next time-
~Sue

- Mash the avocado and stir together with the lime juice, salt and garlic powder.
- Spread guacamole over the top of the beans.
- Mix sour cream with enough milk to make it thin and easy to come out of the squirt bottle.
- Draw spider web on the top of the guacamole with the sour cream.
- Sprinkle olives, cheese, tomato and green onion around the edges.
- Place spider in the center for decoration (but do not eat! LOL!)

I like this – very nice.
im trying to make this a day ahead.. i wonder would the beans be fine served cold?
The beans taste best warm but would be ok cold. Be careful with the avocado though as it can oxidize and turn dark.
This is just too cute. I will be making this for Marissa’s bonfire party on Saturday. Thanks Sue.
What is taco sauce? And what would be the best one to use for this recipe?
Taco sauce is a spicy sort of ketchup flavored with cumin and is like a pureed version of salsa fresca. Use whichever one you prefer pr make your own from scratch.
You can construruct an edible spider using black olives…
True, you can make spiders out of lots of things, like an almond and squid ink spaghetti. The ring in this recipe is meant as a little prize for any kid hanging about. It brings happiness, like getting the prize in a box of Cracker jack or buried at the bottom of a box of cereal. For kids, it’s the little things.
I too though make the spider out of black olives. Here is my first result. So its a six legged spider, so what?
